WOMENS TENNIS DOWNS ALABAMA A&M FOR FIRST WIN

HUNTSVILLE – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season Sunday with a 4-3 win at Alabama A&M. UNA is now 1-11 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 3-7.
 
Two quick wins in doubles play gave the Lions the early lead. Juliette Talieu and Lee-Taylor Bishop won 6-2 at No. 3 before Payton Andrews and Gabriela Cevallos clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the top spot.
 
UNA won the first three matches in singles play to clinch the match. Talieu started the scoring with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position. Sydney Flesch followed at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-3 win. It was the fourth straight singles win for the junior from Huntsville.
 
Kalais Going then clinched the match for the Lions with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.
 
After the overall match had been decided, AAMU won the final three points in singles play.
 
UNA will play its next match against Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday, March 9. Match time is set at 2 p.m. in Montgomery.
