FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama men's and women's tennis teams each dropped an ASUN home match against Kennesaw State on Thursday, eliminating the teams from qualifying for the conference tournament. Both teams will host FGCU on Friday in the season finale.

On the women's side, the first two matches in doubles play were split with Kennesaw State victorious in the No. 2 position, and Sydney Flesch and Payton Andrews winning 6-3 T the No. 1 spot. The Owls then won the No. 3 match 6-4 to take the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead.

In singles play, KSU won the first five matches, including victories at the No. 1and No. 6 spots before a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 to clinch the match. Kennesaw State built a 6-0 lead before UNA's Kalais Going secured the final point on the day with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles. The sophomore from Tauranga, New Zealand, split the first two sets 6-2 and 4-6 before winning 12-10 in the tiebreaker.

With the loss, UNA falls to 3-18 overall and 1-7 in ASUN play.

On the men's side, Kennesaw State jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by identical 6-2 scores. No. 1 doubles went unfinished with the Owls leading 5-4.

In singles play, KSU won at No. 2 and No. 6 before securing the match at the No. 5 spot with a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Kennesaw State then won the remaining three matches in straight sets to close out the 7-0 victory.

The loss leaves the UNA men with a 3-16 overall record, including a 1-6 ASUN record.

Match times against FGCU on Friday are set for 10 a.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men.
