SOCCER BATTLES SOUTHERN INDIANA TO SCORELESS DRAW

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's soccer team held a 10-5 advantage in shots but could never find the back of the net Thursday evening in a scoreless tie at home against Southern Indiana. The second consecutive scoreless draw gives UNA a 2-0-3 record on the season.
 
The North Alabama defenders have now posted four shutouts on the season and have recorded 256:15 consecutive scoreless minutes, dating back to a 1-1 draw against South Alabama on Aug. 25, in Mobile. The Jaguars scored in the first half before the UNA scoreless streak began.
 
Against Southern Indiana, the Lions yielded only five shots, including one on goal. Junior goal keeper Payton Yates recorded the save to pick up her fourth shutout of the season.
 
UNA had several chances to score, including two in the final 2:30 of playing time. Consecutive corner kicks in the closing minutes resulted in a header by Hope Lensing that went just wide. A shot by Chloe Fell in the final minute was also saved by the USI keeper.
 
North Alabama will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.
