THIBODAUX, La. -- The University of North Alabama women's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2023 season with a 5-2 decision over Nicholls State.

The Lions picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the doubles point, the won the top four singles matches to get the win.

Juliette Talieu (No.1)m Martina Paladini (No. 2) and Valeria San Miguel (No. 4) all won in straight sets. Kalais Going then won at No. 3 singles, 6-3 in the third set.

"We are so happy about the win today," said UNA head coach Olaya Garrido-Rivas. "After a tough loss yesterday, the girls were resilient and came out ready to put up a fight. It was so important for us to win the doubles point and get that momentum. Then our top four girls in our singles lineup were able to get it done. Everyone contributed in today's win and hopefully this gives us confidence for Tuesdya's match."

The win was the first for Garrido-Rivas as the new director of tennis at UNA.

North Alabama hosts UAB on January 31.
