KENNESAW, Ga. -- North Alabama's
Elena Escobar picked up her fourth win in the last 10 days, throwing a complete-game shutout on the road as the Lions picked up a key 5-0 ASUN Conference win at Kennesaw State in the first game of a three-game series.
Escobar (8-2), threw her third straight complete game in conference play, limiting the Owls to just four hits.
The Lions backed her with single runs in the second, third and fifth innings, and then scored two runs in the seventh.
In the second,
Brooke Burback singled and scored on a
Danielle Taitt RBI-double.
In the third,
Sidney Bevis walked and scored on an RBI-double by
Gracie Benton.
The run in the fifth came across as
Felicity Frame singled, went to second on an error, was sacrificed to third and scored on a
Hailey Jones sacrifice fly.
In the seventh, Bevis doubled, Jones was hit-by-pitch and they both scored on a single by Burback to make it 5-0.
The Lions out-hit the Owls 10-4.
Escobar pitched seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. It was her third shutout of the season.
UNA is now 22-9 overall and 4-6 in the ASUN.
The Lions and Owls are scheduled to play a double-header on Saturday, beginning at 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.
