BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (January 28, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team concluded the season-opening weekend with a 5-2 defeat on the road to the Samford Bulldogs on Sunday in Birmingham, Ala.

The Lions started the dual by clinching a point after two doubles matches. Samford took five of the six singles matches to win it.

UNA's record moves to 1-1 to start the season, while Samford gets their second win of the year at 2-1.

Ada Karabacak/Kalais Going and Marta Serra Carles/Anoek Pruijmboom got things started for North Alabama with respective 6-2 wins in doubles to clinch the doubles point. The number one court of Stanislava Bobrovnikova/Marta Torres (UNA) vs. Emily Surcey/Ally Hayduk (SU) was left unfinished.

Samford would rally in the singles competition by taking five of the matches. UNA freshman Emma Ansorge was the lone UNA player to earn a win at the No. 3 spot.

The Lions are back in action to host their first dual of the season Saturday, Feb. 3, against Tennessee State with first serve to be announced later this week.
