FLORENCE, Ala. (February 3, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team earned a win in their home opener Saturday with a 6-1 victory over the visiting Tennessee State Tigers at the UNA Tennis Complex.

North Alabama picked up the win with a strong effort from the start, earning the doubles point with first and third flight wins before totaling five singles' victories. The Lions would pick up all five of their singles wins in straight sets.

UNA improves their record to 2-1 on the season, with Tennessee State still looking for their first win at 0-5.

Emma Ansorge/Kalais Going and Stanislava Bobrovnikova/Marta Torres picked up doubles wins to earn the first point of the dual through doubles. Ansorge/Going defeated Aroa Arrieta Castillo/Natalie Walsh 6-1 from Flight No. 3 before taking the points with Bobrovnikova/Torres beating Perri Howard/Warona Mdlulwa 6-4 from the top flight.

Heading to singles play, Ansorge, Bobrovnikova, Going and Torres picked up their second win of the day with wins from flights No. 3, 2, 4 and 5, respectively. Ansorge defeated Jovana Nokolic from flight three, 6-0, 6-2, before Bobrovnikova took a 6-0, 6-1 win from Flight No. 2 over Perri Howard. Going defeated Louise Ratiu 6-1, 6-3 from the No. 4 spot, while Torres nabbed the final UNA win of the day over Aroa Arrieta Castillo from flight No. 5, 6-4, 6-3.

Junior Anoek Pruijmboom earned the clinching win of the day with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Claudia Murdasanu from the No. 6 spot.

The Lions will be back in Florence next Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10 when they welcome Jacksonville State to the UNA Tennis Complex. First serve against the Gamecocks will begin at 1 p.m.
