JACKSON, Miss. (February 23, 2024) – University of North Alabama Women's Tennis will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 for weekend tennis action in Mississippi against Jackson State and Alcorn State.
North Alabama meets the Tigers and Braves following a historic win over Troy from the UNA Tennis Complex on Feb. 15, defeating the Trojans for the first time since 1990.
Winning the doubles point early, the Lions alternated wins with the Trojans for the first four singles matches of the dual. UNA got the decisive victory with senior Kalais Going's three-set win from the No. 4 spot before freshman Emma Ansorge closed with a three-set win from the second flight.
Looking forward to Mississippi, the double header will be hosted by Jackson State from the JSU starting against the Tigers at 11 a.m. UNA then concludes the day against Alcorn State at 3 p.m.

NOTES
SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama is 3-2 heading into the weekend in Mississippi, looking to leave Jackson with a winning streak following the double header. The Lions have been a threat in doubles with an 8-4 combined record through five duals. Going and freshman Ada Karabacak are unbeaten in doubles so far, with Going the winner of four matches while Karabacak has three. Senior Marta Torres, sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Ansorge all have three singles wins on the year, tied for the team-high.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Jackson State meets the Lions sporting a 6-2 record, while 2-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They are winners of four of the last five duals, but the Tigers will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping a 4-1 dual to Alabama State last time out this past Sunday. Hernan Geria is the head coach for Jackson State.
SCOUTING THE BRAVES: Alcorn State faces the Lions for the first meeting in program history, entering with a 2-6 record. The Braves have wins against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Feb. 6 and Bethune-Cookman for their first SWAC win on Feb. 16. The Braves are coached by Stas Smirnov.
LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama met Jackson State on the court for the first time in program history on March 4, 2023, defeating the Tigers 4-1 at the UNA Tennis Complex.
