Women’s Tennis falls in heartbreaker to Kennesaw State

Lions win four matches in narrow road defeat

KENNESAW, Ga. (March 22, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team opened their two-dual roadtrip suffering a 4-3 setback at Kennesaw State Friday morning.

The loss moved the Lions to a 9-5 record. UNA is still in search of its first Atlantic Sun Conference win. UNA got out to an early lead after winning the doubles point, but the Owls came back in singles play to force the deciding point on court five. Freshman Ada Karabacak was pushed to a third set, but Kennesaw State's Izabelle Persson secured the winning point with a
5-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova led for UNA with two wins from the top flight in singles and doubles. She helped defeat KSU's
Ema Barianakova/Taylor Dean, 6-4, with senior Kalais Going to cap the doubles portion of the dual and earn the pairs' fourth win on the season. She picked up her second win against Dean in singles play, winning 7-5, 6-3.

Junior Anoek Pruijmboom, freshman Emma Ansorge, and Karabacak also secured wins in the outing. Pruijmboom/Karabacak moved to 5-0 as a pair with a 6-0 win over Sophia Unger/Ivana Gresova from flight three. Ansorge tied senior Marta Torres with a team-leading seventh singles win from flight six against
Ema Barianakova, 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Valeria San Miguel and Torres both went to third sets in their singles matches, but the two fell to Sophia Unger and
Laura Nadaska, respectively. The remaining two were won by the Owls in straight sets.

The Lions' head back to Florida on Sunday, March 24, facing North Florida in an ASUN dual. First serve from Jacksonville is set for 10 a.m. CT.
