NOTES
LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama played four games at the Rocket City Softball Showcase in the Huntsville area, picking up a 6-3 win over ETSU on Friday. The Lions lost 4-0 to Ole Miss in the opener, ending a nine-game season opening win streak. On Saturday, No. 17 Auburn escaped with a 2-1 win, while No. 16 Mississippi State won 6-2 in the finale.
Hailey Jones batted 6-for-13 for the tournament to extend an 11-game hitting streak.
AMONG THE LAST UNBEATENS: UNA started 9-0 for the first time since the 2016 season, where the Lions won the NCAA Division II National Championship with a 60-7 record. Entering last Friday, UNA was one of just 10 teams in Division I with an undefeated record through nine games. The other nine were from power conferences, including seven SEC teams and two from the ACC. Only four remain this week — Oklahoma, South Carolina, Georgia and LSU.
THE DAWN OF DOVER: Sophomore
Briley Dover was voted ASUN Player of the Week after the first week of the season following a 10-for-18 weekend at the Stinger Classic. On that Saturday against Nicholls State, Dover went 5-for-5 with a single, double, two triples and a homer in the seventh inning to complete the cycle. She is the first Division I player at UNA to hit for the cycle, hit two triples in one game and to have five hits in one game.
SIMON STRIKES: Twin sisters
Emily Simon and
Katie Simon have joined forces with
Alivia Wilken in the circle this season. The three starters have a combined 1.94 ERA over 83.0 innings. The ERA ranks as the 21st lowest in the country and the lowest in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Combined with one inning from freshman
Kaylee Snyder, the pitching staff has allowed a .191 opponent batting average.
TRIPLE THREATS: The Lions rank third in the nation with nine triples this season, trailing ACC teams Virginia (13) and Louisville (10). Only six teams in the NCAA came claim to have nine or more triples so far, while only 26 can claim to have six or more. Six Lions have hit at least one triple, led by Dover with three.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Memphis is 9-6 this season with a 7-0 record at home. The Tigers started 5-0 at home with wins over Rust College, Lindenwood and Hampton during the 901 Classic Tournament. The Tigers have battled one ranked team, falling 9-1 in five innings against No. 24 Kentucky. They are coming off a doubleheader split with Georgia State in Atlanta on Sunday. Redshirt junior Kennedy Semien leads the offense with a .465 batting average, while junior pitcher Rylee Dugar leads the staff with a 2.60 ERA over 35 innings.
SERIES HISTORY: UNA has a 4-0 record against Memphis, including three road wins. The series started with a tight 2-1 win for UNA in 2019. The Lions hosted Memphis once in the series, winning 6-0 in 2022. UNA also won both road games in 2023, including a 6-1 win and 11-3 win just two days apart at the Blues City Classic.
