Lions roll to ninth-straight win; beat Bisons for first home ASUN win

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 19, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team extended its win streak Wednesday morning against the Lipscomb Bisons, taking a 5-2 victory in Atlantic Sun Conference play from the UNA Tennis Courts.

In the first conference action played in Florence, North Alabama's hot streak stayed intact with a convincing effort from the Lions. UNA struck first with the doubles point against the Bisons, extending the positive start into singles with wins on four of the six flights to earn the home win. The victory marked the ninth-straight on the season, with North Alabama moving to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the ASUN.

In total, six Lions gained wins in the home outing. Leading the charge was senior Stanislava Bobrovnikova and sophomore Ada Karabacak with a singles and doubles win each. Bobrovnikova continues to play her best tennis, extending her win streak to eight in doubles while winning her 10th-straight singles match. Karabacak also stayed hot with her 11th-straight singles victory with the sophomore also earning her eighth doubles victory of the season.

Junior Eeva Ristola won her doubles match with Bobrovnikova, staying perfect with her season record improving to 12-0. Junior Lena Karlovcan also won in doubles, teaming with Karabacak towards their third doubles win. Junior Senem Ocal's sixth-flight singles triumph was her ninth of the campaign, and sophomore Mathilde Delaney was victorious in singles to capture her seventh win.

Doubles was a competitive bout to start, with all three flights played to determine who got the early advantage.

Karabacak and Karlovcan defeated Serafima Bobrovnikova and Sofiia Zhylchuk, 6-1, from flight three to earn the first doubles win. Lipscomb's second flight captured the second doubles win, with the top flight determining who won the doubles point. Bobrovnikova and Ristola were able to secure the victory against Sofiia Paladi and Mariia Dolzhenko in a 6-3 result.

Bobrovnikova's momentum extended into singles, with the senior securing the first win in a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Paladi. Ocal nabbed North Alabama's third team point, rolling to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Zhylchuk on court six.

The clinching point came courtesy of Karabacak from the third flight, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rut Galindo.

The Bisons claimed the next two singles matches from courts two and four, but the final match went in favor of Delaney and the Lions. Playing to three sets, the sophomore played to a super tiebreak in the final frame. Delaney showed composure in the deciding set en route to a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-6) win over Lipscomb's Bobrovnikova.
