Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. (April 13, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team fell in the final regular season bout on Sunday in a 4-3 result to the North Florida Ospreys in Florence.
North Alabama's postseason tuneup match saw the Lions face the Ospreys, looking to secure a share of the Atlantic Sun Conference's Regular Season Championship. UNA also looked to clinch the number one seed in the upcoming ASUN tournament, but the Ospreys battled the Lions down to the final point and took the win.
North Florida opened with the doubles point and took the first singles match, but North Alabama answered back with three-straight singles victories. The Ospreys would seize momentum from the final two flights, taking the away win while securing the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
The Lions secured the No. 3 spot in the upcoming conference tournament with the day's result.
The contest saw four Lions secure wins on the day, led by junior Eeva Ristola winning both her singles and doubles match. She teamed with senior Stanislava Bobrovnikova for the duo's 12th doubles victory of the season, leading to her 10th singles win of the campaign. Sophomore Mathilde Delaney and junior Lena Karlovcan were also victorious in singles to round out the wins for UNA.
North Alabama had a great start in doubles play, with Ristola and Bobrovnikova picking up 6-1 win over the Ospreys' Isabel Oliveira and Nicole Alfaro from court one. North Florida responded with victories on court two and three, heading into singles with the one-point advantage.
The Ospreys won the first singles match from court five, but the Lions' Karlovcan secured the first team point with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Alisa Lyshko. Delaney followed with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory on court three against North Florida's Gabriella Goyins. Ristola made it three-straight UNA wins with her court-three triumph, defeating Anslee Long, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
In the final two flights remaining, North Florida tied the dual at 3-3 with Laurie Barendse overcoming Bobrovnikova from court one in three-sets, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. The final match saw a court-two matchup between the Lions' Ada Karabacak and the Ospreys' Oliviera, but Oliviera overcame her first-set defeat to claim the final team point, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
