Softball to host Bellarmine for Senior Weekend

Lions own 11-game win streak over Bellarmine dating back to 2015

FLORENCE, Ala. (April 17, 2025) – The University of North Alabama softball team will honor four seniors this weekend at Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium, as the Lions welcome Bellarmine to town for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader Friday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
 
On Saturday, the Lions will play the series finale at 11 a.m. Prior to the game, UNA will honor Grace Gregory, Lillyanna Cartee, Ryleigh Boyett and Hailey Jones with a special pregame ceremony.
 
On Friday, the Alabama Kidney Foundation will be on site for UNA's annual "Green Out Game" to raise awareness. Shirts will be available to fans with 100 percent of donations going to support AKF. Friday will also be "Bark in the Park" sponsored by Barktown. North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) will be the game sponsor on Friday.
 
All three games will air on ESPN+ with Grant Wakefield and Ande Jones on the call. Live stats are available on StatBroadcast and tickets can be purchased at this link.

LAST TIME OUT: Last weekend, the Lions went on the road and lost two of three at Austin Peay. Hailey Jones was the leading hitter in the series, going 7-for-12 at the plate with a triple and two RBI. Emily Simon was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week for her complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over the Govs in game two of the series.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama enters with a 26-15 overall record and a 6-9 record in ASUN play to sit fifth in the ASUN Gold Division standings. UNA has led the ASUN in team ERA all season long, now sporting a 2.51 ERA. UNA also has the third-best batting average in the league at .307.
 
TRIPLE THREAT: UNA ranks 12th in the nation with 16 triples this season. Senior Hailey Jones has five triples to lead the team, which ranks second in the ASUN behind Austin Peay's Kylie Campbell with six. Sophomore Briley Dover has four triples.
 
KEEPING UP WITH JONES: Senior Hailey Jones is UNA's leading hitter with a .397 average. The multi-time all-conference selection has 218 career hits and a .322 career batting average in four seasons at UNA. Last month, Jones broke the all-time career doubles record last set by Jessica Liddy with 52 from 2004-07. Jones currently has 54 career doubles.
 
TRIPLE THREATS: The Lions rank 16th in the nation with 14 triples this season. Sophomore Briley Dover and senior Hailey Jones have four triples apiece, which ranks second in the ASUN.
 
KEEPING IT 600: UNA head coach Ashley Cozart won her 600th career game recently at EKU, owning a career record of 603-235-1 over 16 seasons as a head coach. She has a 412-189-1 record in 12 seasons at UNA. She also coached four seasons at NAIA Lindsey Wilson College from 2010-13.
 
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS: Bellarmine owns a 7-26 overall record and are 2-13 in league play — last in the Gold Division. Despite losing the first 10 games of conference play, Bellarmine has stolen a game in each of the last two series with Bellarmine and Central Arkansas. Harlie Bickett is the leading hitter with 27 hits in 100 at-bats, including six doubles and 15 runs scored.
 
SERIES HISTORY: UNA leads the all-time series with a 19-5 record, dating back to 1994. UNA has won 11 straight in the series, including all nine since Bellarmine joined the ASUN in 2021. Bellarmine's last win over UNA came all the way back in 2009 while both schools were still competing in NCAA Division II.
