Vukas named Atlantic Sun Goalkeeper of the Week

This is the fourth ASUN Weekly award for the Lions this season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 22, 2025) – University of North Alabama graduate goalkeeper Madison Vukas was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday.

Vukas earned the honor after recording her sixth clean sheet of the season in the Lions' 1-0 win against Central Arkansas in the conference opener in Florence.

She made seven saves, including one on a gut-shot ball that knocked her to the ground but was ultimately cleared. Despite the Bears leading in corners and shots, Vukas and the defense prevented any scoring chances throughout the full 90 minutes.

The Pittsburgh, Pa. native joined the Lions this offseason from Bowling Green State University and has made an immediate impact in goal. She is the first UNA player to earn ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week honors since Adriana Wright on Sept. 17, 2023.

Through nine games, Vukas has allowed three goals and made 51 saves, posting a .944 save percentage. Over 810 minutes on the pitch, she has helped lead the Lions to five wins and six shutouts.

Vukas leads the ASUN with a 0.333 goals-against average—the only keeper in the conference with a sub-.500 GAA—and tops the league in save percentage (.944). She also leads in shutouts with six, the only goalkeeper with five or more this season.

Nationally, she ranks ninth in goals-against average, second in save percentage and fourth in shutouts.

This marks her second consecutive shutout, following the 1-0 win over Tennessee Tech last week. Vukas has guided the Lions to three sets of back-to-back shutouts this season.

·  Aug. 17 and 21: 0-0 ties vs. Jacksonville State and UT Martin
·  Aug. 31 and Sept. 4: 3-0 wins over SEMO and Alabama State
·  Sept. 14 and 21: 1-0 wins vs. Tennessee Tech and Central Arkansas

Her teammates have nicknamed her the "Clean Sheet Queen" for her outstanding play.

This is the fourth ASUN weekly award for North Alabama this season, joining honors earned by Lilly Ford, Adelyn Speight and Alice Bussey. This is Vukas' first career ASUN weekly award; she previously played in the ACC and MAC conferences.

"I'm really proud of Madison and her accomplishments this season," said head coach Chris Walker. "I'm really pleased for her and think she is deserving of this weekly award. She has been a great addition to our team this season with her experience and leadership."

The Lions continue conference play against Bellarmine on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
