Adam Sportsman

Adam Sportsman was added to the UNA soccer staff as an assistant coach on June 1, 2022 and enters his third season with the program.

Sportsman helped the Lions to their best season in Division I program history in 2023, finishing with a record of 11-5-6 and making an appearance in the ASUN Championship Final match. The 2023 season saw many program records broken including 13 shutouts, 7 ASUN awards and an Academic All-American in Alice Bussey.

Sportsman came to UNA after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville. In Sportsman’s lone season at UE he helped lead the Aces to the best start in program history and the MVC Championship Final match, while posting the highest victory total in nearly a decade.

Prior to Evansville, Sportsman served as a Graduate Assistant at Auburn University for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. 

While at Auburn, Coach Sportsman navigated a tumultuous and unique split COVID season in 2020-21, ultimately posting a 10-5-3 overall record and a 3-3-2 mark in SEC play. The team advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2016. During his time on The Plains, Sportsman coached 6 All-SEC athletes and 2 selections in the NWSL draft in Alyssa Malonson and Bri Folds. 

Prior to Auburn, he served as the Head Student Manager and Analyst at the University of Missouri where he led the programs statistical analysis efforts. 

Collegiately, Sportsman played at Mid America Nazarene University where he led the team to the 2014 NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals.

Sportsman earned his Masters Degree in Education from Auburn University and his Bachelors Degree from the University of Missouri in 2018.
