PENSACOLA, Fla., – A second straight Gulf South Conference loss eliminated any chance the University of North Alabama volleyball team had of receiving a first-round bye in the upcoming GSC tournament. West Florida's 25-18, 25-13, 27-25 home victory over the Lions on Saturday left UNA with a 13-6 conference record and a fourth-place position in the league standings.
UNA (17-11 overall) will close out the regular season Tuesday at West Alabama. A win over the Tigers would lock up a home match in the opening round of the GSC tourney as either the No. 3 or the No. 4 seed.
On Saturday, West Florida's Katy Kuhlmeier was dominant, recording a .379 hitting percentage with a match-high 14 kills. As a team, the Argonauts (21-6 overall, 14-3 GSC) had 44 kills with a .291 hitting percentage.
Natasha Fomina was the only UNA player to reach double figures in kills. The sophomore from Broomfield, Colorado netted 10 kills and hit .231 for the match. Andrea De Leon added 16 assists while Ashtyn Kapovich recorded 11 digs for the Lions.
