SOFTBALL WIN STREAK REACHES 11 AT LEE

CLEVELAND, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama softball team ran its winning streak to 11 straight games on Friday with two wins at Lee. The sixth-ranked Lions recorded the 12-3, 7-3 sweep to improve to 28-4 on the season and 12-2 in Gulf South Conference play.
 
The 11 straight wins is the longest streak of the season for UNA, which opened the season 10-0 before falling to Young Harris. The Lions got 12 runs off 14 hits in the opener before rallying from a 3-2 deficit in the second game. Reagan Tittle went 6-for-9 at the plate while Anna Gayle Norris drove in six runs on the day.
 
In the opener, North Alabama plated runs in five of the seven innings, including a three-run first inning to take the lead for good. A three-run home run by Brooklynn Clark go the offense going for the Lions.
 
After Lee scored single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings, UNA added a run in the third with an RBI-single by Norris. A three-run fifth inning then gave the Lions a 7-1 lead.
 
Tittle led off the frame with a single and later scored when Amy Carden drew a bases-loaded walk. Madeline Lee then singled down the left line to score two more runs.
 
The Flames plated another run in the bottom of the fifth before UNA scored five more runs over the final two innings. Bailey Nelson, Courtney Shields, Tittle and Clark each drove in runs down the stretch. Shields also scored from third on a wild pitch to account for the final score.
 
Hillary Carpenter got the complete-game victory in the circle. The junior from Hatton allowed three runs off eight hits with a pair of strikeouts to improve to 13-2 on the season.
 
In the second game, the Lions led 2-0 before the home team scored single runs in the bottom of the first, third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead. UNA, however, responded with three runs of its own in the top of the fifth.
 
With two outs and runners on second and third, Norris homered to center field to give North Alabama the 5-2 lead. Following a scoreless sixth inning, the Lions put the game out of reach with two more runs in the top of the seventh.
 
Raven Cole (14-1) recorded the pitching victory. She scattered eight hits over seven innings and struck out eight on the day. After the Flames plated their third run in the fourth inning, Cole retired nine of the next 11 batters without allowing a hit.
 
The two teams will conclude the three-game GSC series with a single contest on Saturday. First pitch is schedule for 1 p.m. (Eastern) at Butler Field on the Lee camps in Cleveland, Tenn.
