FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team held Alcorn State to single digits in all three sets during a 25-6, 25-8, 25-9 sweep Tuesday evening in the Lions home opener. Jessica Austin had 15 kills on 16 swings, hitting a career high .938 and just missing a single-match record for UNA.

The fifth straight win improved the Lions' record to 7-2 on the season. North Alabama finished with a .500 team hitting percentage while the Lady Braves (0-13) were held to a -.050 showing on the evening.

Austin, who added a pair of blocks in the match, had five kills on six swings in the opening set. She was 10-for-10 the rest of the way. Freshman Christina Ellwanger added 10 kills and hit .526 on the night. Jayden Davila-McClary added 30 assists.

Defensively, Ava Carnley led the way with 14 digs.

UNA will now prepare to host five teams over the weekend the UNA Classic. Flowers Hall will be the site of 11 matches Sept. 15-16. The Lions will play Auburn-Montgomery at 3 p.m. on Friday before facing Tuskegee the following day at the same time. UNA will close the event with a 7 p.m. showdown Saturday evening in a non-conference matchup with West Alabama.
