CLEVELAND, Miss., – North Alabama made just one field goal in the final 5:09 as host Delta State outlasted the Lions 84-80 Thursday in Gulf South Conference men's basketball action. The second straight defeat and fourth loss in the last five games leaves UNA with a 7-7 overall record and 2-6 mark in GSC play.

After a three-point basket by Tavaras Tolliver tied the game at 73-73 at the 5:09 mark, UNA did most of its scoring at the free throw line while missing its next seven shots from the floor. Delta State took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Devin Schmidt with 2:25 remaining. After the foul shots gave the Statesmen a 77-76 lead, DSU converted a three-point play to grab a four-point advantage.

Following another defensive stop, Schmidt connected on 1-of-2 free throws to make the score 81-76 in the final minute of play.

UNA got within two points with 33 seconds remaining on a basket by Dimario Jackson to end the field goal drought and cut the DSU lead to 82-80. The Statesmen, however, answered with two more free throws by Schmidt and the Lions missed a pair of three-pointers in the final 12 seconds.

For the game, North Alabama shot 38.9 percent from the floor, including a 6-of-28 (21.4 percent) showing from three-point range.
