WEST FLORIDA MEN DOWN UNA 100-81

PENSACOLA, Fla., – The University of North Alabama men's basketball team could not overcome a 19-point deficit at the half Monday in a 100-81 loss at West Florida. The loss leaves UNA with a 6-5 overall record and 1-4 record in Gulf South Conference play.

West Florida grabbed the big lead by closing the first half on a 28-9 run. The Lions never threatened over the final 20 minutes of play.

Neither team led by more than four points until the midway point of the first half. After a three-point basket by UNA's Dimario Jackson tied the game at 22-22 with 8:17 remaining, the Argonauts took control. A 14-0 run gave the home team a double-digit lead it would never relinquish. The Lions had four turnovers and three missed shots during the spurt and were unable to recover.

A three-pointer by the Argos in the closing seconds of the half gave UWF a 50-31 lead at the break.

North Alabama could get no closer than 13 in the second half. A pair of free throws by Sharwyn McGee with 14:13 remaining capped a 10-1 UNA run to close the gap to 59-46. West Florida, however, responded with six straight points and was able to maintain at least a 14-point advantage the rest of the way.

Five players reached double figures for UWF, which improves to 6-4 overall and 1-4 in GSC play. DJ Thorpe hit four three-pointers and led the Argonauts with 22 points.

Jackson scored 19 points to lead the Lions. Tavaras Tolliver added 17 points while McGee notched 11 points. Austin Timms also had eight points and 13 rebounds.
