SMITH LEADS LIONS TO 95-77 WIN OVER CARVER

FLORENCE – Kendarius Smith hit seven three-point baskets and finished with 33 points to lead the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to a 95-77 win over Carver College Monday night at Flowers Hall. The third straight win moves the Lions above .500 for the first time this season with a 3-2 record.
 
Smtih, a junior from Camden, Miss., was 7-for-9 from long range on the night. He hit five three-pointers in the second half as UNA pulled away.
 
With North Alabama holding a 32-22 lead with 4:23 remaining in the first half, the Lions closed the period on a 13-5 run to take control.  A pair of free throws by Trenton Clayton in the final minute of the half gave UNA a 45-27 lead at the break.
 
In the second half, the Lions led by as many as 26 before emptying the bench. After being fouled on his ninth three-point attempt of the game, Smith hit all three free throws to put North Alabama ahead 83-57 with 9:03 remaining.
 
Sharwyn McGee added 12 points for UNA while Kendall Stafford turned in a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds. For the game, the Lions dominated the glass with a 66-37 rebounding advantage.
 
UNA will remain at home for its next game on Nov. 28 against the Virgin Islands. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
