JACKSON’S FREE THROWS LIFT LIONS PAST UWA

LIVINGSTON – Dimario Jackson sank two free throws with less than a second remaining to lift the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to a 64-62 road win over West Alabama on Saturday. The win puts UNA in a tie with Union for seventh place in the Gulf South Conference standings at 13-11 overall and 8-10 in league play.
 
Jackson's foul shots came seconds after the Tigers had scored four straight points in the final 15 seconds to tie the game. UNA led 62-58 when a UWA basket cut the deficit to two points with 14.9 seconds to play. The Tigers then stole the inbounds pass and drew a foul. Gavin Robinson hit two free throws to tie the game at 62-62 with 5.8 seconds remaining.
 
Jackson drove the length of the floor before getting fouled with .5 seconds on the clock. The senior from Addis, La., calmly sank both free throws to give UNA the lead. UWA did not get off a shot on the other end, sealing the win for the Lions.
 
UNA led 36-26 at the break and led by as many as 13 in the second half. UWA, however, shot 50 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes to stay within striking distance.
 
Austin Timms led UNA with 25 points and 12 rebounds. He scored the first 13 points of the game for the Lions. Jackson finished with 14 points, including a 5-for-5 showing from the free throw line. DeAndre McKinnie rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 11 points.
 
Robinson led West Alabama (9-13 overall, 4-12 GSC) with a game-high 26 points.
 
UNA will host West Florida on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
