FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama couldn't muster a consistent offensive threat against North Florida and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Ospreys at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.
At 9-7 overall and 3-3 in ASUN Conference play, the Lions missed an opportunity to clinch a spot in the ASUN post-season tournament if they had defeated UNF. UNA remains in contention for one of the two remaining post-season spots but wll now have to earn in on the road with matches at Lipscomb on October 18 and at New Jersey Tech on October 21.
North Florida had a couple of early scoring opportunities and made one of them count as Julie Martin flipped the ball to Thais Reiss for a short range blast at the 7:08 mark of the first half. It was Reiss' sixth goal of the season.
The Ospreys made it 2-0 with a goal by Kendra Hoffman at the 36:49 mark. A long pass from Lorena Cedeno drew the UNA keeper out of the box and allowed Hoffman an easy shot on her fifth goal of the season.
UNA was out-shot 11 to five in the match.
Shelby Thornton recorded six saves for the Lions.
The match was the final regular-season home match for UNA seniors
