TOLEDO SHOOTS DOWN UNA MEN 80-59

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo shot over 50 percent from the floor including 14 three-point baskets Wednesday evening during an 80-59 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team. The loss leaves UNA with a 2-5 record and still in search of its first road win of the season.

The Rockets (5-1) used a 12-4 run late in the first half to grab a 12-point lead and UNA could not get any closer over the final 20 minutes of play. After a transition basket by Emanuel Littles made the score 25-21 at the 3:46 mark of the first half, Toledo made its move. A trio of three-pointers pushed the lead to 34-21 and prompt a North Alabama timeout.

The lead reached 14 twice in the final two minutes. A basket by UNA's Kendarius Smith with 33 seconds to play cut the deficit to 37-25 at the break.

Toledo stretched the lead to 19 early in the second half before the Lions responded. Kendall Stafford scored four points and Jamari Blackmon added a three-point play as North Alabama closed the gap back to 12 points at 51-36 with 13:26 remaining. UNA, however, would get no closer.

Consecutive three-pointers by the home team gave Toledo a 54-36 lead and the Lions would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way. The Rockets shot 50.8 percent from the floor and hit 14-of-29 three-point attempts with six different players connecting from long range.

Blackmon led UNA with 16 points. Christian Agnew added 14 points while Stafford rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 13 points. Luke Knapke led Toledo with a game-high 18 points on the night.

UNA will return home to host Jacksonville State on Saturday. The Gamecocks will represent the first Division I men's team to visit Flowers Hall. Tip-off is set for noon.
