SPOKANE, Wash., – Seventh-ranked Gonzaga used a fast start to take control and never looked back during a 96-51 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Friday evening. With the loss, UNA falls to 3-11 on the season.
The Zags scored 29 points before UNA hit its first shot from the floor nearly eight minutes into the game. A basket by Christian Agnew with 12:10 remaining in the first half made the score 29-3. Gonzaga took a 48-14 lead into the half.
After hitting only 5-of-27 shot attempts from the floor in the first half, UNA began to find more offense over the final 20 minutes of play. The Lions shot 46.4 percent from the floor in the second half.
A three-point basket by Jamari Blackmon at the 16:36 mark made the score 53-25. The two teams traded baskets on the next two possessions but the Lions would get no closer. Gonzaga led 70-38 with 9:05 remaining before closing the game on a 26-13 run.
For the game, Gonzaga held a 43-32 rebounding advantage and scored 19 second-chance points. The Zags also shot 54 percent from the floor, including a 60 percent showing in the second half.
Agnew led UNA, tying a season-high with 18 points. Blackmon added 14 points while Kendarius rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 11 points. Five players reached double figures for Gonzaga, including Zach Norvell's game-high 20 points.
UNA will play at Eastern Illinois on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on EIU campus in Charleston, Ill.
