FLORENCE, Ala. --
Kylie Huey took a pass from
Shelby Wall with just over five minutes left in the match and blasted a shot into the net from 10 yards out to give the University of North Alabama a 2-1 women's soccer win over Alabama A&M University.
The Lions, now 2-0 overall, held 1-0 lead at intermission before the Bulldogs tied it in the 77th minute on a break-away goal by Braejah Washington. The match then remained tied until Huey scored her 35th career goal at UNA at the 84:58 mark.
Despite being whistled for 15 offsides calls in the contest, North Alabama held a commanding 19-5 lead in shots and had 14 shots on goal. A&M goalkeeper Jodi Medina made numerous diving saves and deflections in the match to keep the Bulldogs in it.
Madeline Guillen gave UNA a 1-0 lead at 40:07 of the first half when she scored off an assist from Wall. It was Guillen's second goal of the season.
After Washington tied the match at the 66:10 mark, Wall and Huey combined for the game-winning goal. It was Huey's first goal of the season to go with two assists. Wall already has two goals scored in 2018 to go with two assists.
North Alabama will try and remain undefeated when the Lions host Jackson State on Friday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
