FLORENCE – After grabbing an 18-point lead in the second half, the University of North Alabama men's basketball team held off a late Kennesaw State rally to record a 76-71 victory Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. With the win, UNA improves to 8-14 overall and 5-2 in ASUN Conference play.

North Alabama led by 18 points on three different occasions in the second half.  After a pair of free throws by Jamari Blackmon gave the Lions a 53-35 lead with 15:29 remaining, however, the Lions struggled to score. UNA was 9-of-28 from the floor in the second half and went 8:41 without a field goal.

Kennesaw State started the rally with an 11-2 run to get within single digits. Two free throws by Cantavio Dutreil pushed the lead back to 57-46 before the Owls used another 9-0 spurt to close the gap to 59-55 at the 7:00 mark.

KSU got within a single point down the stretch, but could never tie the game or take the lead. After the Owls' Tyler Hooker hit two free throws to make the score 64-63 with 3:54 remaining, UNA responded with five straight points. The Lions got a free throw from Kendarius Smith and consecutive baskets by Blackmon and Christian Agnew.

Kennesaw State added another basket by Hooker to get within four points, and grabbed a defensive rebound on the ensuing possession. Blackmon, however, got a steal and layup to give UNA a 71-65 lead with 39 seconds to play. The Lions hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

All five starters reached double figures for UNA. Smith led the way with 18 points while fellow senior Kendall Stafford notched 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
