BALANCED SCORING PACES UNA MEN TO 95-64 WIN OVER CARVER

FLORENCE – Six players reached double figures in scoring as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team won its home opener with a 95-64 victory over Carver College Sunday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The balanced scoring attack evened the Lions' record at 1-1 on the year.

For the game, the Lions shot 52.6 percent from the floor, including 10 three-point baskets. Payton Youngblood was 3-for-4 from long range while Mervin James did all his damage from the paint. Both finished with 14 points on the day.

The Lions used a fast start to take control before holding off several Carver charges throughout the first half. A trey by Youngblood on the game's first possession started a 13-2 UNA run in which all five starters scored. Emanuel Littles capped the run with a basket and free throw to complete a three-point play at the 17:02 mark.

The Cougars (0-5) closed the gap to five midway through the first half before another 12-3 spurt pushed the lead to 31-18 with 7:21 left. A basket by James in the closing minutes of the half gave UNA its largest lead at 52-30. The Lions took a 52-34 lead into the break.

Carver got within 14 points on three different occasions early in the second half. After a pair of free throws made the score 63-49, the Lions used another 19-4 run to put the game out of reach. A transition basket by James Anderson, II with 1:27 remaining gave UNA its largest lead at 95-59.

Littles turned in a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Anderson, C.J. Brim and Christian Agnew all added 12 points each.

UNA will play at Indiana on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (Central) at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.
