BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS TROY PAST UNA MEN

TROY – Troy opened the second half on a 9-0 run and never let North Alabama pull even during a 71-63 home win Wednesday evening at Trojan Arena. The loss breaks a two-game winning streak as the UNA men's basketball team falls to 4-5 on the season.

The two teams entered the break in a 32-32 tie after Jamari Blackmon hit two free throws with less than a second remaining. The Lions, however, would not score for the first 2:57 of the second half while the home team regained a nine-point lead.

Baskets by Blackmon and Christian Agnew, followed by a three-pointer by Aleksa Matic cut the Trojan lead to 41-39 before Troy answered with another run to push the lead to double digits.

The Lions trailed 51-45 when another scoring drought proved to be the difference in the game. UNA went more than five minutes without a field goal while the home team stretched the lead to 17 in the closing minutes. During an 11-0 Troy run, the Trojans got six second-chance points and got four points off a pair of UNA turnovers to take a 62-45 lead with 4:22 remaining.

North Alabama got within single digits down the stretch, but could get no closer than eight points.

After being out-rebounded in the first half, Troy held a 23-13 advantage on the glass over the final 20 minutes. The Trojans finished with a 41-34 rebounding edge on the night. Troy also outscored UNA 34-22 in the paint and held a 36-18 lead in bench scoring.

Blackmon led UNA with 18 points. Agnew added 13 points while freshman Mervin James reached double figures for the fourth time this season with 10 points. Zay Williams led four Troy players in double figures with 15 points.

UNA will return home to host Birmingham-Southern on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
