FIRST-PLACE FLAMES HOLD OFF UNA MEN 63-52

LYNCHBURG, Va., – Liberty grabbed a double-digit lead in the second half and held off North Alabama down the stretch in a 63-52 home win over the Lions Thursday evening in ASUN men's basketball action. The win keeps the Flames in first place in the league standings while UNA falls to 6-10 overall and 1-2 in ASUN games.

After trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, the Lions were able to cut the lead to 50-47, and had possession with 4:53 remaining. UNA, however, missed a pair of potential tying three-point baskets and the home team responded with an 11-3 run to put the game out of reach.

North Alabama had three turnovers and missed six of its final seven shots in the final 5:47 of playing time. A basket by Emanuel Littles in the final minute made the score 61-52, but the Flames added two free throws with 30 seconds left to account for the final score.

Liberty led by as many as 15 in the first half before taking a 34-27 lead into the break. A hook shot with 9:55 remaining gave the home team a 50-38 lead before the Lions made one last run.

After Back-to-back treys by Aleksa Matic and Christian Agnew cut the lead in half, Matic hit a jumper and Jamari Blackmon hit 1-of-2 free throws to complete a 9-0 run and pull the Lions to within three.

The Lions forced turnovers on the next two Liberty possessions, but three-point shots by Blackmon and Matic were off the mark.

Three players reached double figures for the Flames (17-1 overall, 3-0 ASUN). Myo Baxter-Bell led Liberty with 16 points.

Mervin James led UNA with 16 points. The freshman was 6-of-9 from the floor with a three-pointer. He was also 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
