Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

UNA WOMEN FALL AT HOME TO TENNESSEE STATE

FLORENCE – The North Alabama women's basketball team struggled to make shots from the three-point line as well as the free throw line Tuesday in an 83-71 home loss to Tennessee State. The loss leaves UNA with a 2-3 record on the season.

UNA was 9-of-30 from three-point range and didn't fare much better at the foul line, connecting on just 22-of-32 attempts. Tennessee State was also able to control the paint on the night, holding a 49-30 rebounding advantage and picking up 15 second-chance points.

The Tigers led from the opening basket, including a 10-point lead in the second quarter before taking a 40-31 advantage into the half. UNA was able to close the gap to two points in the third quarter but could never pull even.

A basket by Patrycia Jaworska capped an 8-1 run and made the score 52-50 with 2:34 remaining in the period. The Lions, however, would not connect from the floor for the remainder of the quarter as TSU stretched the lead to 61-54.

UNA would get no closer than six in the final period. A basket by Macey Lee cut the deficit to 75-68 with 2:17 remaining, but the Tigers hit a three-pointer on the ensuing possession and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Julia Strachan led the Lions with 17 points. Lee finished with 16 points while Jaworska added 15 points on the night. Alexis Callins rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 13 points. Elise Harden led Tennessee State with a game-high 21 points.

UNA will host Freed-Hardeman on Nov. 29. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
