BEACH VOLLEYBALL GOES 1-1 ON FINAL DAY OF UNF SPRING FLING

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – A second straight split on the final day of the North Florida Spring Fling gave the University of North Alabama beach volleyball team a 2-2 record at the event. The Lions defeated Eckerd 3-2 before falling 5-0 to the host Ospreys. UNA is not 5-6 on the season.

The early match featured the Lions knocking off Eckerd College by the same 3-2 score as the previous day. The drama, however, unfolded differently as UNA won four of the first five matches to clinch the victory.

After the Tritons took an early lead with a win at the No. 5 spot, North Alabama took control with three straight victories. Mackenzie Martin and Catie Ladner gave the Lions their first point with a 21-19, 17-21, 15-11 victory at No. 4.

Straight-sets wins by Paula Klemperer and Natalie Kordt (No. 2) and Jelena Girod and Lauren Quigley (No. 3) then clinched the match for North Alabama. Eckerd wrapped up play with a victory at the top spot.

In the second match, North Florida jumped out to early leads in each set and held off the Lions at every position. The loss drops UNA to 0-3 in ASUN play.

North Alabama will return home to host Chattanooga in a pair of matches on March 19. The first match is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts.
