MEMPHIS GETS 87-68 HOME WIN OVER LIONS

MEMPHIS, Tenn., – Memphis shot 55 percent from the floor and had four players reach double figures in an 87-68 win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Wednesday evening at the FedEx Forum. With the loss, UNA falls to 4-4 on the season.
 
After trailing by as many as 28 points in the second half, the Lions closed the game on a 26-7 run. Daniel Ortiz led UNA with 16 points. The sophomore from Shreveport, La., started the final run for the Lions with a three-point basket in the corner. His two free throws with 2:56 remaining later capped an 11-0 spurt to cut the Tigers' lead to 80-63.
 
Memphis was able to stop the bleeding with six straight points and improve to 5-2 on the season. The Tigers, who were picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference, finished the game 33-of-60 from the floor.
 
KJ Johnson added 10 points and five assists for the Lions. Damian Forrest also had two blocked shots and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
 
The Tigers shot 59 percent from the floor in the first half.
 
After a turnaround jumper by Detalian Brown made the score 13-11 at the 13:39 mark, the Tigers answered with a 9-0 run to stretch the lead to double digits.
 
The two teams traded scores until a late 13-4 spurt by the home team pushed the lead to 46-28 at the break.
 
UNA will play at Morehead State on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Johnson Arena on the MSU campus in Morehead, Ky.
