JSU WOMEN EDGE LIONS 5-2 IN ASUN TENNIS OPENER

JACKSONVILLE, Ala., – Jacksonville State broke a 2-2 tie with three straight wins in singles play, including a tiebreaker at No. 1, and a pair of three-set victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to claim a 5-2 home win over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team on Thursday. The loss broke a two-match winning streak for UNA as the Lions fall to 2-12 on the season.
 
UNA led 1-0 after doubles play. Juliette Talieu and Kalais Going opened strong with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. After JSU evened the score with a win at No. 3, Payton Andrews and Gabriela Cevallos clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the top spot.
 
In singles play, the Gamecocks recorded victories at the bottom of the lineup to take a 2-1 lead. Kalais Going then won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 to knot the overall score at 2-2.
 
JSU regained the lead with a 6-4, 7-6 (5-0) victory at No. 1 singles. The remaining two matches then went to a third-and-deciding set.
 
At No. 2 singles, Sydney Flesch split the first two sets by identical 6-4 scores. A 6-3 JSU win in the third set then clinched the match for the Gamecocks. Juliette Talieu also came up short in the third set at No. 3 singles.
 
UNA will play its next at Lipscomb on March 20. Match time for the ASUN showdown is set for 10 a.m. at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center in Nashville.
