FLORENCE, Ala. – Despite holding the lead for more than 30 minutes of the game, North Alabama eventually came out on the short end of a 95-85 overtime loss to Stetson in ASUN Conference basketball action at CB&S Bank Arena at Flowers Hall.
North Alabama led 41-35 at the half and led by as many as seven points in the second half before a late Stetson rally tied the game at73-73, forcing overtime.
In the extra period, Stetson's Luke Brown hit three three-pointers as the Hatters outscored the Lions 22-12.
With the loss, UNA is now 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the ASUN Conference play. Stetson improved to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in the ASUN.
Jacari Lane led UNA with a career-high 27 points, hitting 10-of-15 shots from the floor, while going 7-for-7 from the free throw line. K.J. Johnson scored 15 and
Will Soucie added 14.
Damian Forrest pulled 13 rebounds.
Stetson hit 13 of its 22 three-point attempts to just 6-of-18 shooting for the Lions.
North Alabama took a 4-3 lead at 17:39 of the first half and held it until the 10:07 mark of the second half.
The Lions led by as many as seven points in the first half and held a 41-35 advantage at the half.
UNA pushed its lead back to seven in the second half before a run gave Stetson a 55-54 lead with 10:07 left in the game.
UNA regained the lead with 3:53 to play on a three-point play by Lane, going on top 69-66. Lane followed with another basket and two free throws for seven straight points for UNA.
North Alabama plays at Liberty on Thursday, January 12 at 7:00 p.m.
