NOTES
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the seventh all-time meeting for the two programs, all coming since the start of Division I. The Lions are winless in this series, sitting at 0-6. The two teams have played every season since 2018 with the exception of 2024. The Lions have scored just one goal when playing in Finley Stadium. The last time the two met, the Mocs were the only team to score in the 2023 matchup between the two programs. At the time, the Lions had allowed just three goals all season which was the lowest in the ASUN. UTC held the shots and shots on goal advantage for the game as they won 1-0.
SCOUTING THE MOCS: Most recently, UTC tied in-state opponent Tennessee Tech — who UNA gets a week later. However, the team is an impressive 4-1-1 this season with a win over ASUN opponent Austin Peay. The Mocs traveled to Tuscaloosa and fell 1-0 at Alabama for their lone loss of the season. The team was picked fifth in the SoCon preseason polls and had defender Brenna Swiger selected to the preseason all-conference team. UTC is led by Paige Thomas and Caroline Richvalsky offensively. Paige has a team leading five goals ,while Richvalsky boasts 20 shots, 12 on goal and two assists.
ABOUT LAST GAME: The University of North Alabama soccer team had its second three-goal game of the season to best Alabama State by a 3-0 final on Thursday night. For UNA, this is the fourth shutout in six games this season — the most since 2022 when the Lions shutout five opponents in their opening six games. North Alabama held a 1-0 lead heading into the half with only seven shots going up. In the second half, the Lions doubled it up with 14 shots and two goals in the final 45 minutes to route the Hornets. Captain
Alice Bussey scored her third goal of the season. Junior transfer defender
Lilly Ford had a header for the second goal in the 70th off a set piece. This is her first North Alabama goal and her second in her collegiate career. Freshman forward
Meg Welsh capped off the night with the final goal in the 81st minute. This is Welsh's first collegiate goal in her career.
SSSSHUTOUT: Goalkeeper
Madison Vukas and her back line have been the talk of the town all season long. In the first six games, they have posted four shutouts – the most since 2022 when the Lions logged five in the first games of the season. There have been only four seasons where North Alabama has posted four or more shutouts in the inaugural six games; 2009, 2011, 2022 and now 2025. In both 2009 and 2022, the team post five shutouts in the first six while 2011 saw four. The 2009 team saw five straight shutouts to open the season and dominated opponents 24-1 during the timeframe.
MR. 100: On Thursday night, head coach
Chris Walker earned the 100th win of his 13-year career, which he has spent all at North Alabama. He is the second coach in the North Alabama soccer program's history to accomplish the 100-win mark, joining Graham Winkworth. Walker now needs just 12 wins to hold the most wins throughout the 29-year soccer program history.
NEXT GAME: After Chattanooga on the road, North Alabama gets a week of rest before heading to Cookeville, Tenn. to play Tennessee Tech on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. at Tech Soccer Field.
