Eddie McCarter

With more than 35 years of coaching experience, Eddie McCarter enters his fourth season as assistant men's basketball coach at North Alabama.

McCarter most recently served as assistant coach for three seasons at NCAA Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Prior to that he was the head coach at West Alabama from 2007-2011 and an assistant at UAB in his home town of Birmingham during the 2006-07 campaign.

He spent 16 seasons at the University of Texas-Arlington, including 14 as the head coach. In the 2004-05 season, he became the program's all-time winningest coach since the school became a four-year university. He totaled 179 wins for the Mavericks with a share of the Southland Conference championship in 2003-04. He took over the program in 1992 after spending two season as an assistant coach.

Other coaching stops include Howard Junior College and prep head coaching stints at Charles Henderson High School (Troy, AL). He began his coaching career as an assistant at Fairfield High School.

McCarter took over the Charles Henderson program and quickly established himself as one of the top coaches in the state. He posted a 188-74 record over nine seasons. His teams posted three trips to the state tournament including a berth in the 1987 championship game. In addition, his teams won four south Alabama tournament titles, four area championships, three South Alabama conference titles and a pair of regional championships. For his efforts, McCarter was named South Alabama “coach of the Year” five times.

McCarter earned a bachelor’s degree from UAB in 1975. He later earned a Master of Biblical Studies from Christian Leadership University in 2015.

He is married to the former Alvera Green. The couple reside in Florence.
