DELTA STATE PULLS AWAY FOR HOME WIN OVER LIONS

CLEVELAND, Miss., – North Alabama's four-game winning streak came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 97-74 loss at Delta State in Gulf South Conference men's basketball action. Devin Schmidt scored 34 points as the Statesmen improved to 10-3 on the year with a 5-2 mark in league action. With the loss, UNA falls to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in GSC games.
 
North Alabama trailed 36-26 at the break before cutting the lead to three point early in the second half. A steal and dunk by Austin Timms made the score 46-43 with 15:33 remaining. UNA, however, would get no closer.
 
Delta State responded with a 14-4 run to push the lead to 13. After the Lions cut the deficit to seven points on a basket by Dimarrio Jackson at the 6:28 mark, the Statesmen answered again. A 12-0 DSU run gave the home team an 84-65 lead with 4:08 remaining. Jackson's basket would prove to the final field goal until the final 20 seconds for UNA as Delta State closed the game on a 25-9 run.
 
Jackson led UNA with 19 points. He finished the game 11-for-11 from the foul line, his third perfect free throw shooting game of the season with at least 10 attempts. Bilal Richardson added 17 points on the day while DeAndre McKinnie added 13 points for the Lions. Timms rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 10 points.
 
UNA will remain on the road for another GSC matchup on Monday at Mississippi College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on the MC campus in Clinton, Miss.
