UNA MEN DOWN HUNTINGDON 87-61

FLORENCE – Johnell Ginnie scored 16 points to lead the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to an 87-61 win over Huntingdon Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. With the non-conference victory, UNA improves to 5-2 on the year.
 
The Lions had 12 players see action on the day with everyone contributing on the scoreboard. Austin Timms added 13 points for UNA while Myrek Lee-Fowlkes also reached double figures with 10 points.
 
North Alabama shot 52.8 percent from the floor in the first half, racing out to a 48-27 lead at the break. The Hawks would get no closer than 15 over the final 20 minutes of action.
 
Leading 62-47 with 9:57 remaining, the Lions used an 8-0 run to extend the lead. Dimario Jackson scored five of his nine points during the stretch, including a pair of free throws to make the score 70-47 at the 7:44 mark. Jackson also finished with a game-high eight rebounds.
 
After Huntingdon cut the lead to 17 with 3:47 to play, the Lions put the game out of reach with a 13-4 run to close the game. A steal and dunk by Ginnie capped the run in the final minute of play.
 
Andre Ashley led Huntingdon (0-6) with 13 points.
 
UNA will return to Gulf South Conference action Thursday at home against West Alabama. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
