BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS LEE PAST UNA MEN

CLEVELAND, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start the second half as Lee rallied for a 110-97 home win on Saturday. UNA led 46-42 at the break but took more than nine minutes to record its first field goal of the second half as the Flames reached 100 points in a game for the third time this season.

The loss drops UNA to 14-9 on the season. The Lions also fall into a tie with Union for second place in the Gulf South Conference standings with an 11-6 league record.

Lee grabbed a 50-49 lead with 17:06 remaining on a three-point basket by Levi Woods. After UNA tied the game on the ensuing possession with a free throw by Bilal Richardson, the Flames used a 15-0 run to take the lead for good.

The Lions did not connect from the floor until the 10:56 mark of the half on a three-pointer by Tavaras Tolliver. By then, Lee (7-15 overall, 5-12 GSC) had built a 72-58 lead and UNA would get no closer than 12 points down the stretch.

North Alabama shot just 12-of-41 (29.3 percent) from the floor in the second half while the Flames were 22-of-30 (73.3 percent). Five players reached double figures in scoring for the Lions, including Tolliver's team-leading 21 points. Lee, however, had two players top 20 points, with Keevin Tyus and Rico Overall combining for 52 points for the game.

Richardson finished with 19 points before fouling out with 11:39 remaining. John Fletcher added 16 points while Jeff Hodges tossed in 12 points for the Lions. Da'Shaun Griffin rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 11 points.

UNA will return home to play its next two GSC games. The Lions will host Mississippi College Thursday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
