Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

LION TOP CHOCTAWS 93-70 FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

FLORENCE – Four players reached double figures in scoring as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team stretched its winning streak to four straight games Thursday with a 93-70 home win over Mississippi College.  The win evens the Lions' Gulf South Conference record at 6-6 on the year, while giving the team an 11-7 overall mark.

Dimario Jackson scored 23 points and dished out six assists as UNA recorded the season sweep over the Choctaws. The victory also broke a two-game losing streak to Mississippi College at Flowers Hall.

Another solid rebounding performance fueled the Lions. A 47-34 advantage on the boards resulted in 22 second-chance points for UNA. Austin Timms led the way with 11 rebounds, including a game-high four at the offensive end of the floor.

After North Alabama took a 45-34 lead into the break, the Choctaws were able to close to within five early in the second half. UNA, however, responded with back-to-back three-point baskets by Jackson and Myrek Lee-Fowlkes to start a 9-0 run. Two free throws by Jackson pushed the score to 59-45 and the lead remained double digits the rest of the way.

Fowlkes had a trio of three-pointers on the night, finishing the game with 15 points. Timms added 14 points to round out a double-double showing. Jeff Hodge also reached double digits with 10 points for UNA.

Stacey Mack and Xavion Dillon led Mississippi College (4-12 overall, 1-11 GSC) with 15 points each.

UNA will host Delta State on Saturday. The Statesmen were the last team to defeat the Lions, posting an 84-80 home win on Jan. 12. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
