SAINT LOUIS HOLDS ON FOR 69-58 WIN OVER UNA MEN

SAINT LOUIS, Mo., – Saint Louis took a four-point lead into the half and shot 59.1 percent over the final 20 minutes of play to hold on for a 69-58 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team on Tuesday. With the loss, UNA falls to 1-2 on the season while SLU remains undefeated at 3-0 on the year.

Cameron Diggs had a breakout performance for the Lions. The junior from Mobile scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds on the night.

The two teams traded early runs with UNA scoring the first eight points of the game. Diggs had two baskets in the spurt, including a jumper at the 16:27 mark to give the Lions an 8-0 advantage and prompt a Saint Louis timeout. The Billikens responded with 11 straight points and never trailed again.

Although playing from behind, throughout the contest, North Alabama remained within striking distance. After two free throws by Diggs tied the game at 14-14, SLU used a 15-6 run to grab a 29-20 lead with 1:46 remaining in the first half.

UNA cut the lead to five before a three-point basket by Saint Louis' Dion Wiley stretched the lead to 32-24 in the final 15 seconds. The Lions, however, took advantage of a technical foul against the SLU coach in the closing seconds. Jamari Blackmon and Kendarius Smith each hit two free throws to cut the lead to 32-28 at the half.

A three-pointer by Blackmon in the opening possession of the second half cut the Billikens lead to a single point, but UNA could never pull even. Saint Louis responded with an 18-9 run to stretch the lead to double digits midway through the period.

Baskets by Blackmon and Diggs cut the lead to seven twice down the stretch, but the Lions could get no closer.

Blackmon added 12 points for North Alabama. He also dished out four assists. Javon Bess led Saint Louis with 16 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

UNA will play at Pittsburg on Saturday. Tip-off is set for noon (EST) at the Petersen Events Center on the Pitt campus.
