Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

LIBERTY MEN TOO MUCH FOR LIONS

FLORENCE – Liberty maintained first place in the ASUN Conference standings with a 74-56 win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The third straight loss leaves UNA with a 10-14 record on the season, including a 5-6 ASUN mark, dropping the team to sixth place in the league standings.

Caleb Homesley scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Flames. The senior scored 25 points in the first half alone as Liberty built an 18-point lead at the break. The Lions would get no closer than 14 points over the final 20 minutes of play.

UNA struggled to find offense early in the contest. The Lions had three turnovers and missed their first six shots from the floor while Liberty (23-3 overall, 9-2 ASUN) built an early 11-1 lead. A steal and layup by C.J. Brim gave the team its first basket at the 14:58 mark.

Homesley, however, responded for the Flames with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession as the visitors reclaimed a double-digit lead. Liberty later scored seven straight points to claim a 24-6 lead midway through the opening half.

Brim followed with a trey, then scored baskets on consecutive possession to make the score 24-13 with 9:12 remaining in the half. A 9-0 run by the Flames, however, stretched the lead to 20 points. UNA got a jumper by Jamari Blackmon just before the half, but still trailed 44-26 heading into the locker room.

Both teams scored 30 points in the second half, but the Lions never threatened. A three-pointer by Liberty with 16:08 to play gave the visitors their largest lead at 53-28.

UNA cut the deficit to 15 points twice and later got a trey by Blackmon to make the score 70-56 with 2:21 remaining. The Lions would get no closer.

Christian Agnew led North Alabama with 14 points. Brim added 12 points while Emanuel Littles had a game-high 14 rebounds.

UNA will play at Stetson on Feb. 13. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (CST) at the Edmunds Center on the Stetson campus in DeLand, Fla.
