UNA MEN FALL AT NORTH FLORIDA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – North Florida took an 11-point lead into the half and held off several North Alabama charges over the final 20 minutes in an 82-72 home win Saturday evening in Jacksonville. The loss breaks a six-game winning streak for the Lions, who fall to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in ASUN Conference play.

The ASUN split at North Florida keeps UNA in first place in the ASUN standings. The Lions are tied will ASUN and Division I newcomer Bellarmine and are scheduled to host preseason favorite Liberty for two games Feb. 12-13 at Flowers Hall.

On Saturday, the Lions and Ospreys battled to a 31-31 tie midway through the first half. The home team, however, closed the opening period on a 14-3 run as UNA made just 1-of-10 shots from the floor down the stretch.

Isaac Chatman had all three of UNA points at the end of the half, but the Lions faced a 45-34 deficit at the break.

North Alabama opened the second half on a 21-9 spurt to take a brief one-point lead. A basket by Emanuel Littles put the Lions ahead 55-54 with 12:06 remaining. The two teams traded three-point baskets before the Ospreys used a 10-0 run of their own to take a 67-58 lead at the 9:22 mark.

The Lions got within four before UNF scored eight straight points to regain a double digit lead at 75-63 with 5:53 to play. UNA would get no closer than seven the rest of the way.

For the game, the Ospreys shot 51 percent from the floor, including 11 three-point baskets.

Mervin James led UNA with 20 points. Littles added 14 points and 11 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Jamari Blackmon also scored 14 points to become the program's first Division I-era player to reach 1,000 career points. The junior from Hoover has scored 1,003 career points in his first three seasons with the Lions.
