LIBERTY DOWNS UNA MEN AT HOME

LYNCHBURG, Va., – Liberty won its 35th consecutive home game with a 74-54 victory over North Alabama Monday morning in a rescheduled ASUN Conference men's basketball game. The Flames kept pace atop the league standings while UNA's sixth straight loss left the Lions with a 10-9 overall record and 6-7 mark in ASUN play.

The Flames took control with a run late in the second half. After a runner by Aleksa Matic made the score 14-9 just over six minutes into the game, UNA hit only one of its next eight shots attempts while the home team pushed the lead to double digits with a 17-7 run.

A three-point basket in the closing seconds of the half gave Liberty a 41-24 lead at the break.

A 21-9 run to start the second half gave the Flames their largest lead of the day. A three-pointer at the 12:52 mark made the score 62-33. UNA answered with a 9-0 run but could never get the deficit under 20 points.

Mervin James grabbed a defensive rebound and raced coast-to-coast for a basket to make the score 62-42 with 9:31 remaining. UNA, however, would get no closer.

C.J. was the only UNA player to reach double figures with 12 points. The Lions shot 37.5 percent from the floor and made 6-of-22 attempts from long range.

Liberty countered with a 12-of-24 (50 percent) showing from three-point range. The Flames (18-5 overall, 9-2 ASUN) were led by Darius McGhee's career-high 29 points.

The same two teams will meet again Tuesday morning. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. (CST) at Liberty Arena.
