LION BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOPS HENDRIX, FALLS TO UCA

CONWAY, Ark., – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team defeated Hendrix before falling to Central Arkansas on the final day of the UCA Beach Bear Classic on Saturday. The split gives the Lions a 9-8 record on the season.

In the early match, UNA only had to win only one set after Hendrix forfeited positions 4 and 5. That point came at the No. 3 spot when Mackenzie Martin and Catie Ladner recorded a 21-14, 21-12 victory.

The Lions finished the scoring with straiht-sets wins at the top two positions.

Against UCA, North Alabama came up short for the fourth time this season. Two of the five matches went to a third set and the other three were highly competitive.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead after wins at the bottom of the lineup. UNA got on the board when Paula Klemperer and Natalie Kordt notched a 21-16, 21-18 win at the No. 2 position.

The final two points each took three sets to decide. UCA clinched with a win at No. 3. Jelena Girod and Lauren Quiley lost the opening set before rallying with a 21-14 win in the second. The Bears, however, held on for the 15-12 win to clinch.

At No. 1, Maya Dickson and Taylro Seney scored a 21-19 victory to take the early lead. A loss by the same score in the second set forced a deciding game, which Central Arkansas won 15-13.

UNA will play two matches at Austin Peay on April 9. Match time for the opener is set for 1 p.m. on the ASPU campus in Clarksville, Tenn.
