UNA SOFTBALL FALLS TWICE AT NORTH FLORIDA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – The University of North Alabama softball team came up short twice Saturday in a double-header at North Florida. UNA fell 5-2 and 6-2 in a pair of non-conference games, giving the Lions an 18-16 record on the season.

In the opener, the host Ospreys built a 5-0 lead before holding off a North Alabama rally in the top of the seventh inning. After being shutout out for the first six innings, the Lions opened the seventh with back-to-back hits.

A double by Georgia Land and a single by Kalli Daniel put runners at the corners with no outs. UNA, however, would only be able to push two runs across the plate. Both runs came home on a two-out triple to left center by Madi Nunez.

Both teams finished with six hits. The Ospreys, however used more timely hitting. Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the first inning gave the home team the early lead. In the bottom of the fourth, a pair of hits put runners at first and third before a sacrifice fly made the score 2-0.

A three-run sixth inning proved to be the difference in the game. UNF got two walks in the frame before Logan Jackson connected on a three-run home run to center field.

Megan Garst took the pitching loss for the Lions. She allowed five runs off six hits to fall to 8-9 on the season. At the plate, six different UNA players had one hit each.

In the second game, the Ospreys used a five-run fifth inning to take control. The home team sent nine batters to the plate in the frame and turned a 1-1 tie into a 6-1 lead.

UNA added a single run in the top of the sixth inning but would get no closer.

After North Florida grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, Sidney Bevis hit a solo home run to tie the game in the top of the fifth. After the Ospreys answered in the bottom of the inning to take the 6-1 lead, Harlie Stokes led off the top of the sixth with a triple. She later scored on a wild pitch.

Stokes finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. Bevis also singled and finished 2-for-4 in the second game.

Sidney Revels (4-4) took the loss in the circle. She worked the first 4.1 innings, allowing five runs off seven hits.

UNA will remain in town to play another double-header at Jacksonville on Sunday. Game times are set for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (Central).
