NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 16, 2023) – The University of North Alabama soccer team opens regular season play on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against the Belmont Bruins in Nashville, Tenn. Live stats and video links will be available at www.roarlions.com.
"We've got two tough games to start the season off, but we're excited and ready to go" said head coach Chris Walker. "We've hit the ground running with roughly two sessions every day, mixing in team bonding and fitness and then obviously getting on the ball and working as much as possible there."

O Captain! My Captain!: North Alabama head coach Chris Walker named three Lion captains for the 2023 season. Izzi Gurney-Harper and Hannah Guthrie are both entering their fifth season of eligibility, while senior Alice Bussey lead the Lions in both goals and points last season.
Season Opener: The Lions hold a 16-8-1 record in season openers since their first soccer season in 1997. Last year, the Lions opened up the season with a 2-0 victory on the road against Jackson State.
Series History: This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools all time with the Lions holding a 2-1 edge. UNA defeated Belmont last season 2-0 in Florence.
Scouting Belmont: Belmont finished 2022 with a record of 5-6-6 with one of the losses coming to UNA in Florence. Kelsey Fenix Cameron enters her first season as the head coach of the Bruins.
Familiar Foes: Belmont is one of five of UNA's 2023 non-conference opponents that also appeared on the Lions' schedule in 2022. Belmont joins Southern Indiana, Chattanooga, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Jacksonville State — who exited the Atlantic Sun after last season.
Preseason Outlook: The Lions defeated Middle Tennessee State 1-0 in a preseason friendly on August 12.
Next Game: Following the game against Belmont, the Lions will travel to Evansville, Ind. to take on Southern Indiana on Sunday, August 20 at 1 p.m.
