Men’s Tennis to open season Friday at Auburn

Lions kick off 2025 season against the Tigers

AUBURN, Ala. (January 16, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team returns to action for the Spring 2025 season Friday with an indoor road dual against the Auburn Tigers.

The championship season has arrived for the Lions, who begins the year with a solid test against competition from the Southeastern Conference. UNA looks to build on the previous season's success in 2024 after a semifinal appearance in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and a postseason trip to the UTR Sports NIT Tournament.

North Alabama comes into the season with high expectations with the Lions projected to be a top three team in the ASUN. UNA was picked to finish third by the league's head coaches in the ASUN Preseason Poll.

The dual serves as the first of two duals in January with the Lions also set to take on Belmont on Jan. 26. The full 2025 schedule is set to be released at a later date.

The match will take place at the Yarbrough Tennis Center with first serve scheduled for 4 p.m. Live stats will be provided for the match courtesy of StatBroadcast, and fans can also watch the action live via streaming provided by Auburn Athletics.

FALL 2024 RECAP: 
North Alabama captured 92 wins in the autumn campaign, competing in five events in preparation of the 2025 season. The month of September saw the Lions win 50 combined matches, taking home 20 wins at the Samford Invitational and 30 wins at the EKU Invite. North Alabama followed with the ITA Regionals and CCB Invitational in October, capturing 13 wins from the ITA tournament and 20 wins from the invite in Birmingham. The Lions had two bracket champions from CCB Invitational in doubles play with senior Nazar Fedoryshyn, junior Lachlan Brain, sophomore Alberto Altur and freshman Samu Dominguez leaving as champions. The UTR Sports College Circuit concluded the fall season, ending with nine UNA wins and Brain securing the singles men's bracket championship.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
North Alabama looks to set the tone early for the 2025 season, opening against an SEC opponent for the third time in four years. UNA returns six contributors and five starters from the 2024 season, with all five starters coming from the top five flights. In total, North Alabama brings back a roster that accumulated 124 individual wins across singles and doubles play. Nazar Fedoryshyn looks to provide senior leadership, while Lachlan Brain and sophomores Izan Orgiles and Birtan Duran look to build on the new season after receiving ASUN Conference honors in 2024.

SCOUTING AUBURN: The Tigers also kick off their season on Friday, opening against the Mercer Bears before ending the doubleheader against UNA. Auburn comes into the new year after an 18-11 season in 2024, capping the season with a second-round appearance in the NCAA Championship. The Tigers were projected to finish 13th in the 2025 SEC Preseason Poll, as voted by the league's head coaches. Auburn's head coach is Bobby Reynolds in his ninth season.

SERIES HISTORY: This marks the fifth all-time meeting between North Alabama and Auburn with the Tigers leading the series, 4-0. UNA last faced Auburn during the 2022 season, matching up against the Tigers twice during the 2020 and 2022 seasons.
