NOTES

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the first meeting between the Lions and Redhawks in program history. UNA first started competing in 1997.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS: SEMO is 0-4 to begin the season, only scoring goals in their opening game. Since then the Redhawks have allowed six goals to opponents in their previous three games. This is the third home game for SEMO and the last before a two-game road trip. The team was picked ninth in the preseason polls for the Ohio Valley Conference to begin the year.

ABOUT LAST GAME: The UNA soccer team used a second half comeback to win over the Troy Trojans on Thursday night, 2-1. The Lions stay undefeated in the series over their in-state opponent at 4-0. North Alabama scored two second half goals to complete the comeback. Captain Alice Bussey notched the first goal of the season in the 51st minute, while senior Olivia Heinert grabbed the lead with a late goal in the 80th minute. Troy took an early lead in the first half off a Jiselle Daniels goal that just got out of reach to place in the back of the net. Outside of that, graduate keeper Madison Vukas continued her strong showing with 13 saves.

INCHING CLOSER: Head coach Chris Walker got his 98th win over Troy on Thursday night, bringing him closer to the century mark. The Lions play SEMO first and then have Alabama State at home on Thursday, Sept. 4. If the Lions manage to win over the Redhawks, the long-tenured coach will have the opportunity to do win his 100th game on his home turf.

LIFTING THE LID: The Lions were without a goal for the season before the second half against Troy. Thanks to captain Alice Bussey and senior Olivia Heinert, North Alabama found their first two goals of the season to relinquish the nerves. UNA put seven shots on goal and were offensively aggressive all night to secure their first win this season. Each game, the Lions have grown in shots and shots on goal before breaking through against the Trojans.

CAREER NIGHT: Graduate goalkeeper Madison Vukas continues to show out. On Thursday night against the Trojans, she recorded 13 saves – a career high. She set her career high in saves in her first start for the Lions against ETSU with 10 to open the season. Not only did she record her second career night in just four games, but she set a new high for the Lions during the Division I era. Vukas surpasses Shelby Thornton who set the mark with 11 in a match against NJIT in 2018. The Bowling Green addition continues to shine for the Lions.

NEXT GAME: Following the second true road game against SEMO, the Lions take on Alabama State at home on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. Last season, the game was canceled due to weather.
